名古屋地域の急速な経済成長を見守ってきた都市景観、それが中川運河です。1960年代まで、輸送路として重要な役割を果たしていました。今日では、穏やかな水面沿いに並ぶ大型倉庫、自然に生まれた緑地、そして昔ながらの村の名残をとどめる住宅街や小さな家族経営の店が、独特の魅力を醸し出しています。
名古屋市と中川運河の「らしさ」を見つけるため、中川運河ギャラリーでは創造的な活動を含むアート制作やリサーチ、ワークショップを行っています。展覧会、町歩きツアー、講演や刊行物を通じて、知識を深め、共有し、学びを促すことを目指しています。
ここに住む人と遠方の方々、個人と地元企業、専門家とアマチュアを集め、みんなでふるさと・コミュニティを発展させます。

Loving the charms of the Nakagawa Unga (Nakagawa Canal) means wanting to discover more about it!
The Nakagawa Canal is a cityscape that has witnessed the rapid economic growth of the Nagoya region, having played a key role as a central waterway until the 1960s. Today, its charm lies in the unique blend of large warehouses, patches of spontaneous greenery, and residential areas with small family-run businesses—some of which still preserve traces of old village settlements from the area's pre-industrialization era.

The Nakagawa Unga Gallery creates art, conducts research, and organizes workshops with fun and interactive activities to explore Nagoya City and its Nakagawa Canal. We aim to gain and share knowledge and inspire learning through exhibitions, city walks, lectures, and publications.
By involving those who live here and people from further afield, individuals and local businesses, professionals and hobbyists, we are developing a 'hometown community' together.

We are a small community along the old Nakagawa Unga in the heart of the manufacturing region of Nagoya. You can have a look or make something yourself. Stop by, get involved, contribute and help make things better!
